Climate of Ethiopia

The diversify of Ethiopia’s terrain determines regional variations in climate, natural vegetation, soil composition and settlement patterns.

Ethiopia has two main seasons, the dry season from October through May and the rainy season from June through September. In the southwest (particularly Omo valley) of Ethiopia, the rainy season is Aril & May.

The highlands above 1,500 m in Ethiopia enjoy a pleasant temperature climate, with day time temperature between 160c and 300c and cool nights. In areas below 1,500 m, such as large river valleys, the Denakil Depression, the Ogaden in the Southeast, and parts of the Southern & Western borderlands, daytime temperatures are high, sometimes accompanied by high humidity.
